Our Sustainability Strategy Rooted in Circularity

At PGS, sustainability is about having a positive impact on our people, societies and the planet. Wood is at the heart of what we do, and managing it responsibly is essential. By producing, reconditioning, and pooling wooden pallets, we help build circular systems that use resources efficiently and preserve them for future generations. Through this commitment, we strive to shape a more sustainable industry — one pallet at a time.

From Procurement to End-of-life Sustainability in our Value Chain

We strive to integrate sustainability across every stage of our value chain. It starts with responsible material choices—primarily wood as our key raw material and recycled steel for our in-house nail production. We collaborate with long-term suppliers, source wood from renewable origins, and apply a due diligence system to ensure responsible harvesting in line with high international standards and upcoming european legislation.

Within our own operations, we aim to reduce waste and emissions, improve resource efficiency, and ensure safe and respectful working conditions for our people. We also work to optimise transportation and, where possible, use multimodal solutions to reduce environmental impact.

At end-of-life, we follow the principles of the waste hierarchy—prioritising reuse, recycling, and recovery before disposal—and valorize wooden byproducts wherever possible.

Strategic approach to making an impact

In 2020, we began taking a more strategic approach to sustainability—building on values already present in our business model, such as circularity and resource efficiency. To move from principle to structured action, we developed a Group-wide framework with clear priorities and long-term ambitions.

In 2024, we aligned this framework with the upcoming European Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) by conducting a double materiality assessment. This helped us define where our impact, risks, and opportunities are most significant—both for people and the environment, and for our business. It now serves as the foundation for how we structure our key environmental, social, and governance topics.

Circularity lies at the centre of our business model, with sustainably sourced materials and circular products and services designed to extend product lifespans, reduce waste, and lower emissions. Building on this foundation, we are taking concrete steps to reduce our Corporate Carbon Footprint across operations and the value chain. At the same time, we work to understand and address the potential impacts of climate change, strengthening the resilience of our business for the future.

Our people are the backbone of the organization. Health and safety have long been a priority within our operations, and we continue to invest in robust risk management systems. In addition, we are working to establish an even stronger approach to training and skill development, ensuring every employee across the organization benefits from equal opportunities. We also support the communities in which we operate by engaging in social projects and partnerships that focus on combatting child poverty.

Halting Climate Change

Urgent, collective action is needed to halt climate change. In line with the Paris Agreement, we aim to limit global warming to 1.5°C by reducing GHG emissions across scopes 1, 2, and 3.

Together with expert partners, we measure our corporate and product carbon footprints, invest significantly in reductions, and take action—by phasing out fossil fuels, transitioning to renewable energy, improving efficiency, and collaborating with suppliers and clients. Measuring the footprint of our products helps our clients reduce emissions through informed, low-impact sourcing decisions.
