Story - Environment Offer Eco-responsible Products and Services
Within our organization, we are dedicated to providing eco-responsible products and services. Through product reuse practices like PGS Reverse, we offer a circular service for our wooden pallets and strive to extend it to all pallets we deliver. Furthermore, we collaborate closely with customers to convert existing products into eco-designed alternatives and actively propose sustainable solutions to new customers.
Learn more about our efforts on this strategic topic in the interview by Bart De Laender, the Chief Operational officer.
"The sustainability aspect in the production of new pallets comes from our commitment to optimal design, ensuring that each pallet uses an appropriate amount of wood - neither too much nor too little."
Sustainable Design Responsibility in every step of our manufacturing process
At PGS Group, responsible practices are embedded in every step of our manufacturing process, taking into consideration where, how, and with whom we collaborate. As a leading company in the wood packaging industry, we recognize the importance of reducing our environmental impact while providing load carrier solutions that meet the changing needs of our customers.
With this commitment in mind, we have launched the innovative project ‘Sustainable Design’. Through close collaboration with our customers, we strive to gain a comprehensive understanding of their needs. Based on this information, our technical sales team develops a personalized pallet design that prioritizes efficiency, usability, and ecology, all while ensuring the secure storage and transportation of goods. For instance, we take into account the stackability of the pallets, which can optimize logistics management and reduce the indirect costs.

Customer collaboration
Below we have included a leaflet which gives insights into the collaborative steps we undertake with our customers to achieve a more sustainable pallet design. Please note that these steps are indicative and may vary depending on the customer and pallet type.

Client Case
One of our notable client collaborations for this program demonstrates how sustainable design can yield both economic and environmental benefits. By introducing an improved pallet design, we helped our client achieve a 4% reduction in wood usage. This optimization led to a significant saving of 100 cubic meters of wood across a total of 90.000 eco-designed pallets in their winter season 2022–2023. In addition, the updated pallet design has proven to be more suitable for the clients’ operations and logistical storage, making it an overall better solution.
